Colors of Nature

World environment day (WED), also known as Eco Day is celebrated worldwide by the people aiming to protect the unique and life nurturing Nature on 5th June every year. The event is held to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and is really a climax of environmental activities being undertaken all year round by various organizations and individuals around the world.

Lok Bharti celebrated WED with the young girls at Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya in Alwar, Rajasthan. Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya, managed and monitored by Lok Bharti is a residential school with a mess and hostel facility. The school enrolls girls without one or both parents, belonging to the financially weak marginalized communities.

The morning of 5th June spelt green and brown colors on the sheets highlighting the significance of clean and safe environment. An art competition was organized, providing opportunity to the students to participate in and display their valuable and unique creative expressions of a green nature.

Chief Guest for the event was Sarita, head of Mahila Suraksha Kendra. Amazed by the creativity of students, she said “The masterpieces of the little ones showcased their talents and creativity. Blending artistry with wisdom, the young artists infused meaning into their drawing.”

The students were given one hour to sketch their paintings on the issues faced by the environment, causes of global warming and ways to ensure safe environment.

Showcasing her creative skills, Kaushal Kumari of class 8, won the first prize. Kaushal belongs to a marginalized family from Kalakuan, Alwar. Second and third prize was awarded to Pinky Chaudhary from class 6 and Sangeeta from class 7 respectively. The winners were awarded watches with option of multiple color straps.
