Soaring Aspirations

Majida Bano, a 20 year old girl from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh is daughter of a fruit vendor, whose average earning per day is Rs. 200. With the family size of 7 members, including 4 daughters and one brother, he found it difficult to make both ends meet.

“I have 3 younger sisters and one younger brother studying in school. Along with daily household expenses, my father had to bear my education fees along with that of my brother and sisters. I wanted to find a job to financially support him”, says Majida who is currently pursuing her BA from Awadh University.

She tried finding a job, but couldn’t get selected anywhere due to lack of basic computer skills. Her family’s economic condition prevented her from joining any course due to the cost involved. She came to know about Lok Bharti’s Basic Computer Course of 3 months through a friend who had completed the same course. She joined the course in July 2014 at the Barabanki center of Lok Bharti Skilling Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

“Joining the course turned out to be a turning point in my life. I learnt theory and practical side of MS Office, typing, notepad and email etiquettes. It was very difficult for me to understand all that in the first go. But, the trainer helped me understand better through various examples and other activities”, she says.

After the course, Majida got placed with SBI Bank in Barabanki as Branch Relationship Executive at a package of Rs. 7250 per month. Initially, she had to travel all the way Lucknow, before being transferred to the Barabanki branch. Her task at SBI is to ensure whether a customer is eligible for credit card facility or not by tracking customer’s relation with the bank, his/her financial status and monthly transactions.

With aspirations soaring high, Majida don’t intend to stop here. She aims to become an IPS officer after graduation.

Though her mother didn’t support her working and traveling to big city, her father has always been there to pat her back. “She is like my son. I am proud of her”, he smiles.
